So, they are telling about our grandfather,
Aharon (Arke) Horovitz (Gurovich)
:
That he took an important part in the Jewish defense during the Kishinev Pogroms in 1904. With some other workers from the family's factory, they fought rioters, and the street they lived in wasn’t hurt.
His son, Nachum Hurvitz, told the story to his son as he remembered as a child:
The children were at home with their mother. The mother locked the house and they kept quiet and waited. In a late hour in the night, there was a knock on the door. Hasia Hurvitz checked who was it. It was her husband standing at the door. He looked as if he took part in some battle, and he held in his hand an iron rod covered with blood.
She was concerned, asking him if he’s hurt and what is the meaning of this bloody rod. Aharon answered her with confidant, “Don’t worry, it is not a Jewish blood. None of us got hurt”.
